War Dogs is a flight simulator game set during World War II, featuring 24 warplanes from the major powers of that time: the USA, Germany, UK, Japan, and Russia. The game offers a diverse range of airplanes used in the war, including dog fighters, dive-bombers, torpedo-bombers, and long-range heavy-bombers. Players can enjoy both single-player campaigns and multiplayer arena battles set in five major theaters of war, from the deserts of North Africa to the shores of Japanese isles.

War Dogs provides an immersive air combat experience as it is specifically designed as a flight simulator. Unlike most WW II aircraft games on mobile platforms, it offers both arcade and simulation grade controls to accommodate both rookies and experienced players. With full control over pitch, roll, and yaw, players can execute basic and advanced air combat maneuvers such as barrel rolls, pitchbacks, and wingovers like a true ace fighter.

The game includes features like cockpit mode and war emergency power to enhance the flight simulator experience, placing it on par with PC/console air combat games and simulators. Players can take off and land on aircraft carriers, torpedo enemy warships, dive bomb enemy installations, and destroy their airfields.

The game also offers different campaigns representing different countries:

1. For King and Country (British Campaign): Defend the British shores from the German Luftwaffe using the battle-tested Supermarine Spitfire. Take control of biplane torpedo bombers like Fairey Swordfish to beat back the Kriegsmarine.
2. Always in Action (German Campaign): Dominate the sun-scorched deserts of North Africa for the Luftwaffe using menacing Stuka Dive bombers and light and nimble Focke-Wulf FW 190s. Hold the relentless British Allied advance with surgical strikes.
3. Beneath the Rising Sun (Japanese Campaign): Spearhead the historic assault on Pearl Harbor that pushed the USA into World War II. Decimate the American Pacific fleet with airstrikes using Mitsubishi A6M Zero, Nakajima B5N, and other airplanes.
4. The Motherland Calls (Russian Campaign): Witness an entire nation mobilized to defend their motherland from the German blitzkrieg. Use the crippling winter in Russia to immobilize the German Wehrmacht and disrupt their supply lines. Deploy iconic Russian airplanes like Ilyushin IL-2, Yakovlev Yak-3, and Petyakov PE2.
5. Remember Pearl Harbor (American Campaign): Take the fight to the Imperial Japanese Navy on their own shores. Utilize the full might of American naval air power and avenge the attack on Pearl Harbor. Deploy superior American aircraft like P-51 Mustang, F4U Corsair, P-47 Thunderbolt, SBD Dauntless, TBF Avenger, and Boeing B17 Flying Fortress.

In addition to the campaign mode, players can invite their friends for team battles in multiplayer mode. Each player can choose a squad consisting of two fighters, one dive bomber, one torpedo bomber, and one heavy bomber. Battles can be fought against anti-aircraft guns or fleets of battleships in both land and sea environments. The game offers a choice between flight simulator mode and arcade mode to suit different playstyles. Players can level up and upgrade their warplanes to become ace fighters.
